The Famous George Foreman Grill

This one is not only the highest rated on our top 5 list, but also just happens to be the best seller in electric griddles. There is no doubt that at some stage you will have seen the TV advert, with the famous boxer advertising this particular product.

This model is a combination of both a grill and a griddle. That allows you to get the best of both worlds from the one product. The grill section is great for meats such as steaks or sausages and fish, where as the griddle is great for mushrooms, eggs, tomatoes etc. It can also be used to make toasted sandwiches or as a panini press.

It measures 57.5 x 33.5 x 13 cm and weighs around 3.7 Kg. It uses 2,180 watts of power. An hour’s worth of cooking, using this power will cost you around 28 pence.

Like all on the list, this model is perfect for grilling and cooking of all kinds of food. It has an adjustable thermostat to control the heat, one for the grill and a separate one for the griddle. The plates are also non-stick and it is pretty easy to keep clean. The only real complaint about this one was that the electric lead is a bit too short.

Electric Griddle Buying Guide & FAQ

When checking buyer reviews, we often come across what we call the most frequently asked questions. Below we have tried to answer these to the best of our ability.

Q. Can You Use an electric griddle to cook a large fry up?

A. Yes. You can use it to cook a small or a large fry, and let me tell you that they all do an exccllent job of that.

Q. Do electric griddles use much electricity?

A. All of these have different power settings. That is the number of watts required to create the steam, by heating the water. The smaller ones use about 1,500 watts, and the larger ones around 2,000 watts. In the UK, the average price of electricity is approximately 14 pence a unit. A unit is measure as 1 kilo watt for one hour.

So a 2,000 watt steamer would cost about 28 pence an hour.

Q. Are Griddles Hard to Keep Clean?

A. Like any cooking appliance they are going to need to be cleaned. The drip trays are really useful for removing most of the used oil. Normally they only need a quick wash with soapy hot water to remove the oil. The grill itself will need to be cleaned, and as long as nothing has burned on to it, then that is normally easy enough.

Q. Is There A Risk of Burning With An Electric Griddle?

A. These griddles get really hot, so yes you do need to be very careful. That is certainly true if you plan to cook on a table and share the food. Be extra careful if there are smaller children around as it is all to easy to forget.

Q. What Can You Cook On An Electric Griddle?

A. You can cook vegetables, fish, chicken, and all types of meat and they do give a great grilled taste.
