In these modern days, there are so many different ways to make a great cup of coffee. One of the more traditional ways, and I think one of the best ways, is to use a stove top espresso. These coffee makers just look fantastic, and they have a very classical Italian design. These are of course pretty basic kitchen gadgets, that you simply heat up on your cooker or range.
When used with good quality roasted coffee beans, they do create a wonderful rich espresso.
At the last time I counted, I had 4 of these, most of which I picked up in hardware stores in Rome. They come in many colours and sizes, and I think anyone who enjoys an espresso, will certainly have one of these in their kitchen. In this article I have looked at what I think are the best choices on the market right now.
No 1 Choice – Bialetti Moka Express Espresso Maker
This one can make enough for up to 6 cups, and is the best selling pot on the market right now. It has a great Italian brand name, and of course the classic design, all patented by Bialetti. They have been making these since the 1930’s so they do know what they are doing.
Now I know from experience that there is a way to make the most perfect coffee with this product. The instructions say that you should use a medium grind and then tamp it down firmly. My advice is to make the grind slightly finer and not to over tamp it. That helps push the water through the grains and will make you really top quality espresso.
This product has sold in its thousands, and over 600 buyers at Amazon have rated this at 4.7 out of 5 stars. Do I need to say any more? It costs on average around £20.
I would use this machine 2-3 times a week and I am a coffee nut. It works like a charm and will last for ages. You Can Read More Reviews Here
No 2 Choice – Andrew James 6 Cup Espresso Percolator
If you are looking for something a bit cheaper, then you should check out this one from the brand Andrew James. Like the one above this one also makes 6 cups of espresso. This one also comes in a variety of colours.
This one only costs about £7 so about a third of the price of the one above. In terms of ratings this one gets a 4.2 out of 5 stars, so not quite as good.
For the price though it is I think really good value for money. It is made out of aluminium and has a cool touch handle and a flip top lid.
Many people who have coffee machine start to use this espresso maker, as all too often, coffee makers just make too much coffee, which goes to waste. With one of these you can make a double espresso, add some water and have a great mug of coffee. Click Here to Find Out More.
There are a couple more which I think are worth a look at, and they are slightly different from the more traditional design.
No 3 Choice – Bialetti Elegance Venus Induction Stainless Steel Espresso Maker
I am really tempted to buy this one just because it is a little bit different. I don’t need one of course, but I do just really like the style of this one. A great brand of course and one that I know well, so I know the quality will be good.
My kitchen is done in the traditional style and I think this one is better suited to a more contemporary style.
It does get strong reviews and this one has been designed for induction hobs. It also has a really nice polished stainless steel look to it as well.
It is a really nice option though and one that will suit many kitchens.
And finally we have this option and another nice looking choice it is.
No 4 Choice – Bialetti Moka Express
This is a return to the more traditional style again. This is a smaller stove espresso maker, and this one will make 3 cups of espresso. This one is very similar to the first that I reviewed, though it is made in a smaller size.
It is made from aluminium and is ideal for either one or two people, who do not always need to make a large amount of coffee.
This one costs around £18 depending on where you make your purchase, and it has a very high rating of 4.6 out of 5 stars.
As you know this is a very traditional method of making coffee and one that is still used in many Italian homes today.
If you have never used one of these before, then you will find that they are very simple to use. It does take a little bit of time to get the right size of grain for these, and also how to tamp it down properly to get the best results.
Once you master that, then I know you will enjoy making your coffee this way. I have included a video below on exactly how to do just that.
